Abstract: As Europe’s leading research center focused on environmental health, the Helmholtz Zentrum München is investigating the complex interactions between genetic disposition and environmental factors in the development and progression of chronic diseases. By elucidating the interaction mechanisms between environmental and lifestyle factors and biological systems, we expect to develop innovative approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of disease processes. Our main focus is on chronic diseases of the respiratory tract and the immune system. We are also contributing to research on cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
