Abstract: This private web site is dedicated to the butterflies (Lepidoptera) of Norway. The butterfly fauna of Norway is quite unique. Norway's geographical location on the Atlantic side of the Scandinavian Peninsula has isolated many species from their continental habitats. Also the country's topography with the numerous mountains and valleys has made many species develop interesting endemic subspecies. 100 species have been recorded from Norway, 94 of this species considered to be true residents of the country. All Norwegian species are ordered in a systematic way and imaged, as well as most described subspecies. To each species information about the Norwegian name, the original description, worldwide distribution and Norwegian records are supplied. [Information of the supplier, modified]
