Abstract: | In 2001, Austria and the other EU member states already belonged to the first nations that have declared to stop the loss of biodiversity. Even though Austria has already seen considerable progress and success, more than 33% of native vertebrate species and 40% of fern and flowering plant species are endangered. The loss of species diversity is recognised by the majority of Austrians as a "serious problem" but is seen as a global and not an “Austrian” development. With this in mind, the Ministry of Life (Lebensministerium) and others initiated the “vielfaltleben” (living diversity) campaign with the following goals: with strong partners, creative PR and awareness-raising activities as well as ongoing media coverage, reach the majority of the population and make biological diversity an open topic. Numerous vielfaltleben conservation projects covering all of Austria are providing a fundamental contribution to the conservation and preservation of over 100 threatened species and habitats. We operate in close cooperation with land owners and users, businesses and local authorities, NGOs as well as stakeholders. [Information of the supplier, translated and modified] |
