Abstract: The aim of the Orthoptera of the British Isles Recording Scheme is to collating records of Orthoptera (grasshoppers and crickets) and allied insects (cockroaches, earwigs, mantids and stick insects) through on-line recording. This information will be used to monitor the abundance and distribution of these species and assess changes. All records are made publicly available via the NBN Gateway after validation and also appear on the species accounts. General and detailed information about these groups combined with short videos complete the site. The ideal home experiment shows children how to care for an insect.
