Abstract: The Society for Anthropology (GfA) can be viewed as a representative for all branches of anthropology and human biology in the German language area. It was formed in 1992 following one year of preparation and conceived as a combined successor society for the no longer existant German Society for Anthropology from the new German states and the Society for Anthropology and Human Genetics from the old German states. Because it stands for representation for the common scientific good, the society promotes research and teaching as well as engaging in the active dissemination and application of the scientific results yielded in the process of studying human biology.
