| Abstract: | The ECatSym project provides the first online catalog for sawflies (Insecta, Hymenoptera). The ECatSym database comprises tools to search for the various existing name combinations (valid names, synonyms, misspellings, common names). The user is led to the valid name for the requested taxon and receives a complete list of name combinations associated with this taxon, the distribution within the zoogeographic regions, and whether the species is fossil or extant. For each name combination its availability and nomenclatural status are given. Additional tools lead to lists displaying the common names in 19 languages, the distribution in countries and provinces (as far as available), and the literature references.
