Abstract: The database currently comprises 185773 names of african plants with their nomenclatural statuts (as of April, 2010). Data capture, edition and broadcast are the product of a collaboration between the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève, Tela Botanica and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Data are based on different sources for Tropical Africa (J.-P. Lebrun & A. L. Stork 1991-2010. Enumération des plantes à fleurs d'Afrique tropicale et Tropical African Flowering Plants: Ecology and Distribution, vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in prep. Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève), Southern Africa (G. Germisuizen & N.L. Meyer, eds, 2003. Plants of Southern Africa: an annotated checklist Pretoria), North Africa (Dobignard, A. & C. Chatelain 2010-2011. Synonymic and bibliographic index of North Africa plants. vol.1 Monocots, vol. 2 & 3 in prep.), and Madagascar (Catalogue of the Vascular Plants of Madagascar. Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis).
