Data capture, edition and broadcast are the product of a collaboration between the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève, Tela Botanica and the Missouri Botanical Garden. This interactive guide is addressed to anyone who is interested in the flora of Estonia. It includes c. 1100 plant species (out of ca 1500 species recorded from Estonia), incl. several introduced woody species which are cultivated in parks and orchards. Some plants which are difficult to separate even for specialists are excluded from this key, e.g. many species of Alchemilla, Craetagus, Hieracium, Rosa, Salix, Taraxacum etc. Several very rare species are excluded as well from the present version. Anthos is a program that was developed in order to show assorted information about the plant life of Spain on the Internet. The overall geographical environment chosen for the project is a view of the Iberian Peninsula and the Macaronesian islands (Canaries, Madeira and the Azores) as a representation of each of the biogeographical units to be found in Spain, so that the distribution of a taxon may be studied throughout the entire national territory and surrounding area, fully integrating the taxon in its geographical component. ... The aim of this web presence is to enable access to habitat information for plant species in the Alsace area. Two alternatives are offered: either, after the selection of a species, a map of its distribution is shown, or lists are presented; the lists show either all the species known to be present in the area of a commune, or all communes within whose areas a particular species has been verified. The cartographic presentation of the floristic inheritance of Alsace is made possible through the utilisation of three data collections: (1) the Brunfels database of the Société Botanique d'Alsace, which contains about 215000 records of occurrence; (2) a part of the phytosociological database SOPHY, with data for Eastern France, which has been made available to the Société Botanique d'Alsace, containing 165000 entries for Alsace; and (3) the database of the Herbarium of the Louis Pasteur University in Strasburg (Strasbourg, STR) currently with 38000 entries. ... During the first thirty years of Atlas Florae Europaeae (AFE), the basic technology for the collection of distribution data and publication of distribution maps has remained practically unchanged. Manual map production as such is rather tedious. Furthermore, distribution data available only on printed maps are not suitable for further (computerized) analyses. The construction of the Atlas Florae Europaeae database was started in 1992. The primary goal was to make the distribution data available in digital format, and the additional goal was the computerization of the editorial process of AFE. The printed AFE distribution maps were processed this way: - the maps were scanned at 300 dpi resolution / - locations of the grid cells (4419) were calculated on the scanned bitmap images / - arrays of black pixels were searched from the bitmaps using custom software / - the map originals and and their interpretation were compared using custom software. Australia's Virtual Herbarium (AVH) is an online resource that provides immediate access to the wealth of plant specimen data held by Australian herbaria. AVH is a collaborative project of the Commonwealth, state and territory herbaria, under the auspices of the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH). Herbarium specimens are accompanied by information on where and when they were collected, by whom, their current identification, and information on habitat and associated species. So far, over 80 per cent of the specimens housed in Australian herbaria have been databased. This data forms a valuable resource for a wide range of stakeholders. The combined specimen data from each herbarium's collection provides the most complete picture of the distribution of Australia's flora to date. AVH is a dynamic resource. New specimen records are added as herbaria continue to database their ever-growing collections, and existing records are updated to reflect name changes and data validation work. ...
