The scientific enterprise embraces a broad spectrum of activities, from fundamental research to advanced applications. Academia, government, and industry all perform critical roles in moving ideas into innovations. The demands of the twenty-first century, including improved access to sufficient food, clean water, sustainable energy, and health care, can only be met by accelerating discovery and the translation of discovery into applications. Robust, sustained investments across the full spectrum of the scientific enterprise are essential for developing products that improve the human condition and drive economic growth. We can speed progress by amplifying collaboration across sectors and disciplines. What new avenues for interaction between basic and applied research might be explored? How can we encourage broader participation from every sector and demographic to meet today’s needs and to help invent the future? ... [Information of the supplier]
Wolfsburg is waiting for you! Various institutions from Braunschweig are organizing the annual conference of the VAAM 2018 in Wolfsburg. Involved are the Braunschweig University of Technology (TU), the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), the Leibniz Institute German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ), the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries (TI) and the Julius Kühn Institute, Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants (JKI). During the last years, we focused our joint microbiological research in Braunschweig on infection, biodiversity, ecology and biotechnology. Typical for Braunschweig is the trustful, close scientific cooperation across disciplinary and institutional borders. Here microbiologist are used to work with local and international engineers, physicians, bioinformaticians and chemists in joint projects. Moreover, this interdisciplinary and international approach is the basis of our common educational programmes. Consequently, you find here an innovative and friendly study and research environment. ... [Information of the supplier]
There has been tremendous progress in the past few years regarding our understanding of DNA replication in eukaryotes, both yeast and mammals. Many important questions in the field are poised to be answered within the next decade. These include understanding DNA replication at the biochemical and three-dimensional protein structure levels. In addition, studies using high throughput technologies at the cellular and organismal levels are poised to answer how accurate replication of the genome is ensured by controlling origin firing in space and time. Several human diseases, including cancer, have already been linked to DNA replication stress, a term that refers to perturbations in DNA replication. Therefore, a better understanding of how cells respond to this will help us understand disease development and responses to therapy. By bringing together experts in the basic biology of DNA replication and DNA replication stress, this symposium aims to fuel further progress in these important fields. ... Over the 4 days of the conference there will be plenary and parallel sessions focusing on all facets of core facility operations, management and specific technologies of interest to core facility staff. Keynote talks will be given by 2001 Nobel laureate Paul Nurse and by Frances Weis-Garcia (President of ABRF). Poster sessions will be held to allow core scientists to present new developments in their technologies and a core facility marketplace area will also be available for facilities to promote their expertise and services. A Belgian beer tasting, guided boat trip through the city's canals and conference dinner in the old fish market will highlight the social program. CTLS2018@VIB aims to offer core facility staff and those interested in careers as expert scientists an opportunity to learn, network and forge alliances to strengthen core facility science throughout Europe. ...
