Virtual Library of Biology Project
The University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg, Frankfurt/Main, established the Virtual Library of Biology as an integrated access to scientific information for biologists via the Internet. This meets the demands of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; DFG) to provide, nationwide, better access to the special subject collection Biology, Botany, Zoology. The project has been funded by the German Research Foundation (2006 - 2011).
Library catalogue data, selected internet sites, journals, databases and full text documents are situated at one virtual location.
Biological scientists in Germany, scientists in associated subjects, educational staff, individuals interested in natural history, members of administrations, political entities and the media are targeted. The specific information requirements of potential users were investigated in a preliminary study.
